About Anne Rubin
Anne Rubin lives with her husband and 2 young children in the Village of
Red Hook. Her son RJ is 4, and attends preschool at Bard. Her daughter
Samala is 7, and attends Mill Road Elementary in Red Hook.
Anne’s family moved from the Midwest to the Hudson Valley in 1975. She has
lived in Dutchess County, Ulster County and New York City, as well as
abroad. She has worked as a hotel manager, travel agent, technical
translator, and volunteer firefighter. As a student at SUNY New Paltz she
studied philosophy, German & Italian literature, and pre-law. In 1999 she
interned with Judge Judith Hillery of the Dutchess County Supreme Court
(Civil Division). She recently completed a program of studies at NYU in
technical & legal translation.
Anne grew up in the Midwest, and was deeply influenced by her parents and
grandparents, who were extremely active in their community. Her
grandparents were founding members of a community fund that helped the
needy, rehabilitated the local library and county pool, and created
college scholarships. They started an annual arts festival, and used the
proceeds to sponsor workshops for children. Anne's mother does volunteer
work on a crisis counseling hotline. Anne's husband Charlie also comes
from a family with a history of social work, teaching and union
organizing. Together, they are instilling a strong sense of community in
their children.
Anne Rubin is now a dedicated mother and community activist. She is a
deeply caring person, and it shows in everything she does. When the local
food pantry ran out of supplies last Thanksgiving, she made dozens of
calls to community leaders in her town asking them to donate food and
spread the word. She spoke out on the local radio station to let people
know about the pressing needs of those families without enough resources.
As a result, thousands of dollars worth of food and donations came in.
When she was asked to join her Town’s Conservation Advisory Council, she
didn't just say yes. She threw herself into the effort, spending countless
hours studying the problems of water contamination and the laws and best
management practices that can prevent it. She met with local leaders and
gave extensive presentations urging the Town to adopt the Dutchess County
Model Water Ordinance, so that future generations would be guaranteed the
clean drinking water that we take for granted today.
Anne is an appointed member of the Town of Red Hook Conservation Advisory
Council and the Red Hook Zoning Review Committee. She is a registered
Green party member, and is an active volunteer with her local Democratic
committee.
As your Assemblywoman, Anne will bring the same drive and enthusiasm she has shown in her own town to the entire Hudson Valley. She will focus especially on tax fairness, job growth, water quality and the environment, protecting farms & preventing sprawl, and helping the most disadvantaged of our citizens.
